Here are a few pictures taken from our apartment or the school. In mid-June the sky is not like this until after midnight, and it stays like this until well after 2 am! Truly beautiful and awe-inspiring. These are all sunset pictures, looking west, except for the last one, taken at sunrise and looking east. If you look carefully you can see the neighboring village of Nunapitchuk on the right side of the horizon.
Below is an example of what is basically the same shot as above, but in the daylight and looking slightly more north. What you see on the left side of the first picture is really what most of the country looks like without snow. Lots (and lots!) of blue water and green grass. Check out the reflection in the second picture. That glassy water gets me itching to jump in a kayak and start paddling! But when freeze-up comes (3rd picture), kayaking just doesn't work very well anymore.
