Hello! Greetings from winter wonderland! It's already snowy here and the river has been covered with ice a couple of times in the morning lately. But today it probably reached the mid-40s, so its not freeze-up time yet. When that really hits, traveling across the river gets very dicey. I don't have much time for this site these days because I'm SUPER busy with my grant writing class, my masters program in SLP, and the geometry class I proctor at the school. Tomorrow they said it may hit 50 degrees so I might try one last paddle tomorrow.
As I mentioned in the last news, we have tons more photos up on Grove Street (link is on our photos page), so check it out! I also ran across a very cool program called Easy Thumbnails that is sort of a bulk photo editor. If you take lots of digital pics and want to email or publish them online, this program will save you mass time. Its also free, and a small download to boot! Click here to go to the website. The program has allowed me to cut the file size of most of my photos without taking a lot of time to do it. Which means I can upload more of them, in less time.
Tammy is teaming with the other middle school teacher to coach Speech this year. The kids will go to Bethel in a couple of weeks and compete in several different speaking categories, and Tammy will go with the middle schoolers. This is costing her about an hour and a half after school every day. She is also teaching 1 more class than she taught last year, a high school class on Alaska History. And in her only planning period, she is helping one of her math students catch up with the rest of the group! She has been feeling a little depressed about having to work SO much, and neither of us were real sure what to do. We prayed, and within a couple of days we got the news that the two new teachers want to teach the High School government class next semester that we thought Tammy had to teach. They actually asked her if she'd mind giving it up. Hooray!!! J
What else is going on here? I'll be taking the GRE in preparation for applying for grad school in SLP. That will be in Anchorage in about 3 weeks. We're going to go on a 7 night cruise over the Christmas break! Talk about culture shock after Kasigluk. Lately we've been having water issues in our building, and for a while we couldn't flush our toilets or do dishes or take showers or anything. Going from that, and our small, quiet village to the zaniness of a cruise ship! Plus, we're not exactly "cruise" people, at least I didn't think so, if you'll pardon my conceit. But it just sounds like a good way for us to get away from home and rest! We'll have seen family over Christmas, but they won't be on the cruise, just us and a zillion strangers. It goes from Long Beach CA to Mazatlan, Cabo San Lucas, and Puerto Vallarta, and then back.
There is probably more I should say. But Tammy is still at work and its almost bedtime, so I'm going to go and help her to leave! Quyana for reading our latest news!
